Family Travel in Thailand: Child Seats

Travelling in Thailand with kids is easy once the car is sorted: book a private transfer, ask for a fitted child seat (+฿200), and pick a vehicle big enough for your family and its luggage. Taxis and ride-hailing cars almost never carry proper child seats, so arranging one in advance is the single most useful thing you can do. Here’s how we handle families, and a few tips that make the day smoother.

Child seats in Thailand: the law vs the reality

Thailand introduced a law requiring child restraints for young children, but enforcement is patchy and — this is the important part — most taxis and Grab cars simply don’t have a seat to offer you. Metered taxis at the airport won’t have one, and app cars are a lottery. So while the rule exists on paper, in practice you cannot rely on turning up and finding a seat.

That’s why we ask about ages and weights when you book, and fit the right seat before the driver leaves for the airport. It’s the difference between a safe, relaxed drive and holding a toddler on your lap for an hour on the expressway.

Our fitted child seats (+฿200)

We carry proper child and booster seats and fit them for you at a flat +฿200 per seat. Because it’s a private car booked in advance, the seat is installed and checked before pickup — not something you’re wrestling with at the curb after a long flight. Tell us each child’s age and rough weight and we’ll bring the correct type (rear-facing infant, forward-facing toddler, or booster).

Choosing your vehicle: Innova vs minivan

The most common family mistake is booking a car that fits the people but not the suitcases. A family of four with four large cases and a stroller needs more room than the headcount suggests. Here’s the honest split:

As a rule of thumb: if a child seat plus a full set of suitcases and a stroller are all going in, size up to the minivan. The extra space for the same short journey is almost always worth it, and no one’s climbing over bags.

Halfway stops for toilets and stretching

On longer drives — to the coast or a cruise port — kids don’t do three hours in one go, and neither do most parents. Our drivers are happy to make a halfway stop at a clean rest area or petrol station for toilets, snacks and a leg-stretch. Just mention it when you book or tell the driver on the day.

Airport meet & greet with kids

Landing with tired children is where meet & greet earns its keep. Water, snacks and staying comfortable

Thailand is hot, and kids dehydrate faster than adults. Our cars are air-conditioned and we can have water ready for the journey — just ask. Bring your own familiar snacks for the drive, keep a light layer handy since the AC can feel cold after the humidity outside, and have any motion-sickness remedies in your day bag rather than buried in a checked case.
