Where can you go from Bangkok in a day?

Bangkok sits within easy reach of the Gulf coast, so a beach or island break rarely needs a flight. The classic escapes fall into three groups: the quick east-coast runs to Pattaya and the cruise terminal at Laem Chabang; the island trips to Koh Samet and Koh Chang, which pair a road transfer with a ferry; and the mainland-resort and heritage runs to Hua Hin and Kanchanaburi. This hub lays out how far each one is, roughly how long it takes, what it costs per car, and links you straight through to the detailed page for the trip you have in mind.

The thing that makes all of these easy is the format: a private, fixed-price car with your own driver, picked up at your hotel or straight from the airport. There is no timetable to catch, no terminal to find, and no per-person ticket maths — you agree one fare for the whole vehicle and that is what you pay, fuel and tolls included.

Every route from Bangkok, explained

Pattaya · ≈2 hours

The fastest proper beach escape from the city, about 150 km down the motorway. It works brilliantly as a same-day airport run for a resort weekend. See fares and pickup options on our Bangkok to Pattaya transfer page, or weigh up the bus, minivan and private car in the Bangkok to Pattaya options guide.

Koh Samet · ≈3 hours + ferry

An island trip in two legs: a car to Ban Phe pier (about 220 km), then a short passenger ferry or speedboat across. We drop you right at the pier so you catch the next boat. Full prices are on the Bangkok to Koh Samet transfer page, and the piers and timetables are covered in the Koh Samet ferry guide.

Koh Chang · ≈5 hours, ferry included

Thailand's second-largest island, about 320 km east near the Cambodian border. Our fare already includes the vehicle car-ferry, so one price covers the whole journey. See it on the Bangkok to Koh Chang transfer page, and read the ferry timings in the Bangkok to Koh Chang guide.

Kanchanaburi · ≈2 hours

The closest of the lot at about 130 km west, and the best pick for a heritage day tour — the bridge over the River Kwai, the Death Railway and the waterfalls of Erawan. Prices and pickup are on the Bangkok to Kanchanaburi transfer page, and you can add stops to make it a full private day out.

Laem Chabang cruise port · ≈1.5 hours

The Gulf's main cruise terminal, about 90 minutes east of Bangkok and handy for both embarkation and shore excursions. See timings and meet points on the Laem Chabang cruise transfer page, and plan the day around your sailing with the Laem Chabang cruise guide.

Straight from the airport to the coast

You do not have to go into Bangkok first. We meet you at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) arrivals with a name board and drive directly to your beach — no bus terminal, no minivan change, no dragging suitcases across the city after a long-haul flight. It is the same fixed-fare car, simply starting at the airport instead of a hotel.

New to arriving in Thailand? Start with our complete Bangkok airport transfer guide, then jump to the flagship Suvarnabhumi airport transfer page for meet-and-greet details before we carry on to the coast.

Islands

Ferries & islands: how the boat leg works

Two of the destinations here are islands, so the last stretch is a boat rather than a road. The road transfer gets you to the pier; the ferry takes you across. How that boat leg is handled differs by island, and it is the one thing worth understanding before you book.

For Koh Samet, we drive you to Ban Phe pier and you buy a passenger-ferry or speedboat ticket at the window — cars cannot board, so this is always a two-part trip. The piers, boat types and timetable are laid out in the Koh Samet ferry guide. For Koh Chang, the car itself rolls onto a vehicle ferry at Ao Thammachat, so your fixed fare already covers the crossing and you stay with the vehicle the whole way; the timings are in the Bangkok to Koh Chang guide. Pattaya, Hua Hin and Kanchanaburi need no boat at all.

“First time in Bangkok and dreading the airport taxi scrum. Instead the driver was waiting past the Gate 3 doors with a name board, took my trolley, and the price was exactly what I'd agreed on WhatsApp — no meter, no toll surprise. In the car with cold water within ten minutes of clearing immigration.”

“Wir sind direkt vom Flughafen nach Ban Phe gefahren und sie hatten die Fähre nach Koh Samet schon mitgeplant. One fixed price for the whole car, the driver knew exactly which pier and boat, and stopped once so the kids could stretch. So much easier than dragging suitcases through a bus station.”

“Прилетели ночным рейсом в Дон Мыанг. The flight was 90 minutes late and I panicked, but they were tracking it and the driver simply waited — no extra charge. Clean Camry, clear fixed fare in baht agreed in advance. Именно то, что нужно после долгого перелёта.”

Day trips from Bangkok FAQ

How far is the coast from Bangkok by car?

It depends on the beach. Kanchanaburi is closest at about 130 km (roughly 2 hours), Pattaya is about 150 km (2 hours), Hua Hin and Ban Phe pier for Koh Samet are both around 200–220 km (about 3 hours), and Koh Chang is the furthest at about 320 km (around 5 hours including the car ferry). Every one of these is a comfortable same-day drive in a private car, and we quote a single fixed fare per vehicle for the whole road leg.

Can you drive me straight from the airport to the coast?

Yes — this is one of our most popular runs. We meet you at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang arrivals with a name board and drive directly to Pattaya, Hua Hin, Ban Phe (Koh Samet) or Koh Chang, so you can be on the beach the same day you land instead of changing to a bus or minivan in the city with your luggage.

Are the island ferries included in the price?

It varies by island. For Koh Chang the fare already includes the vehicle car-ferry, so one price covers the whole journey. For Koh Samet the private car takes you door-to-pier at Ban Phe and you buy the short passenger-ferry or speedboat ticket at the pier yourself (roughly 100–200 THB per person return). Pattaya, Hua Hin and Kanchanaburi are all reached by road with no boat at all.

Is the fare fixed per car or per person?

Every fare on this page is per vehicle, one-way, and all-inclusive of fuel, tolls and the driver — not per person. A family or group of friends splits one price, which is what makes a private transfer so much cheaper than it first looks compared with buying separate bus or minivan seats.

What is the best beach near Bangkok for a quick trip?

For the least travel time, Pattaya (about 2 hours) is the classic choice with the widest range of hotels and things to do. For clearer water and a more relaxed island feel, Koh Samet via Ban Phe pier is the favourite, and Hua Hin suits families who want a calm resort town. Koh Chang rewards a longer stay because of the extra drive and ferry, so it is best kept for two or three nights rather than a day trip.

Can I add stops or make it a private day tour?

Yes. Because you have the car and driver to yourself, you can add a lunch stop, a viewpoint or a market on the way, or turn a Kanchanaburi run into a full day tour of the bridge over the River Kwai and the waterfalls. Extra stops are a small add-on to the fixed fare — just tell us your plan on WhatsApp and we will confirm the price before you book.
